The Munster Pickles are a bit unusual among bands as we play nearly equal numbers of both instrumental and vocal music. Why hasn't someone thought of this before? You will hear fiddles, guitars, and Celtic banjo, and we may add other instruments upon occasion. Our repertoire is large and varied and we continuously seek new numbers which speak, first to us, and, later, to our audience.
We like to play foot tapping, knee slapping music - or achingly beautiful songs and airs. Mostly, it is traditional in origin and what isn't traditional will probably sound that way. Let me be more specific: jigs, both Appalachian & Irish reels, songs of historical origin from both sides of the Atlantic, airs, comic material both new & old, hornpipes, O'Carolan pieces (and similar ones by other composers), Steven Foster songs,... whatever suits our collective fancy.
Some of these we do as medleys and there may be others that we may perform as individuals. We also play as duos upon occasion. We’d like to have you join us by singing or dancing to our music!
But the Munster Pickles are not only about music. You will hear jokes and quips, often Irish-flavored. What's an Irishman's idea of a 7 course meal? (A potato and a six pack.) And you just may learn something more about our instrumental music or the often fascinating background of certain songs. Know the difference between a jig, a hornpipe and a reel? Come to our concerts; you will then. But while we can wax didactic, we keep a fast pace and keep the music coming.
